Dr. Drew Burdi, a former college football quarterback who now specializes in foot and ankle surgery, has weighed in on the possibility of Jaxson Dart returning for the playoffs. The New York Giants quarterback, currently recovering from knee surgery, might rejoin his team if they secure a playoff berth.
“He’s a talented player, but the risk might not be worth it,” Burdi mentioned during an OutKick interview. This sentiment is echoed by the Giants’ head coach, John Harbaugh, who has not ruled out Dart’s participation in the playoffs.
Dart underwent surgery on September 25. This procedure involved repairing his left knee meniscus, and addressing MCL and PCL damage. Recovery is estimated at four to six months. If the Giants make the playoffs, there’s a chance Dart could return as early as January 2027, aligning with the Divisional Round.
Harbaugh acknowledged that Dart himself had speculated about a return. “Did he tweet that? Maybe he texted me,” Harbaugh noted, suggesting this might be too ambitious.
Without Dart, the Giants have performed well. They lead the NFC East with a 3-1-1 record. The rest of the division struggles, offering the Giants a good playoff chance. The Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Commanders have underwhelming records.
The Giants, undefeated in recent games without Dart, aim to continue this momentum against the New Orleans Saints.
