Troy Aikman, a Dallas Cowboys icon and current “Monday Night Football” commentator, is not easily swayed. When asked about the Cowboys’ 38-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field, Aikman remained measured in his assessment.
“Eh, not really, and I don’t mean that as a negative,” Aikman stated. “This is a beat-up Philadelphia team. To come in here and win tonight, I mean, let’s not get carried away.” The Eagles have been struggling, entering the game with a four-game losing streak. They had backup quarterback Tanner McKee starting, as Jalen Hurts is out for the season with blood clots. Additionally, offensive lineman Cam Jurgens was traded, and right tackle Lane Johnson retired unexpectedly. Saquon Barkley had been absent due to a hamstring injury and left the recent game with a back issue.
“They did what you would expect them to do,” Aikman continued. “I did think the Eagles defensively would put up a little bit more of a fight than what they did.” He pointed out that the Cowboys’ defense, although improved, continues to face challenges, allowing 25.7 points per game, which ranks them 23rd in the league. Offensively, the Cowboys fare better, holding the fifth rank with an average of 27 points per game.
The victory brought the Cowboys to a 3-4 record, still trailing the NFC East leaders, the New York Giants, who stand at 4-2-1. The Cowboys’ next game against the Arizona Cardinals (2-5) presents another chance to shift perspectives on their performance.
