Uncertainty Surrounds George Pickens’ Attendance at Cowboys Minicamp
The Dallas Cowboys secured George Pickens with a one-year franchise tag tender. Despite this, challenges persist regarding the star wide receiver’s participation.
A key question is whether Pickens will attend the upcoming mandatory minicamp. He previously missed the team’s OTAs. While head coach Brian Schottenheimer and receiver CeeDee Lamb believe in his attendance, doubts linger. This skepticism stems from Pickens’ history with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he often challenged authority.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio expressed concerns about Pickens showing up. Florio stated, “Pickens embracing the one-year deal shows he wants to prove his time in Pittsburgh was an outlier. What matters now is attending next week’s mandatory minicamp. Missing it, after signing the contract, will raise flags. People will wonder about his intentions, questioning why he would risk $100,000 in fines by not postponing his tender acceptance until after the camp.”
Florio added, “This situation highlights important questions for the Cowboys. It will reveal Pickens’ commitment. If he’s dedicated, he’ll work to allay concerns, aiming for a substantial future contract. If not, teams might hesitate to offer the deal he appears to deserve.”
Concerns about Pickens potentially holding out or seeking a trade remain until he attends. However, team reports suggest Dallas does not plan to trade Pickens. Both parties seem focused on the 2026 season, with Pickens eyeing a significant contract extension afterward.
