Vandalism at Lincoln Memorial: Arrests and Repairs
The United States Park Police have arrested several individuals in connection with the vandalism of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. This incident follows algae discoloration and damage to the pool’s surface. President Trump expressed his disapproval on Truth Social, describing the acts as serious crimes against national monuments. He emphasized the urgency for repairs and severe legal consequences for the perpetrators.
David Hearn, a 67-year-old from Bethesda, Maryland, was one of those detained. He recounted being taken into custody for five hours after examining the pool during a bike ride. Hearn, with a background in Olympic canoe racing and watercraft materials, claimed his interest was scientific. Despite initial compliance with a park worker’s request, he found himself detained by authorities.
Reports claim the pool’s resurfacing has led to problems, including algae blooms and loose paint. The issues arose after recent renovation efforts ordered by President Trump. Crews attempted to combat algae by introducing hydrogen peroxide into the water.
The pool’s history includes consistent plumbing troubles, condensation issues, and leaks. President Trump has promised that the algae problem is nearing resolution. He also vowed that vandalism damage would be addressed soon.
Another concern involved numbers etched into the National Mall. The numbers 86 47 were interpreted by authorities as potential threats against President Trump. Investigations into this matter are ongoing.
The landscape around the Reflecting Pool has faced gradual deterioration. Nonetheless, the efforts to refurbish and restore its condition continue, with the nation’s landmarks considered vital to Washington, D.C.’s landscape.
