IndyCar champions Josef Newgarden and Kyle Kirkwood, along with commentator Will Buxton, recently visited ‘Fox & Friends’ in Times Square. They previewed the much-anticipated Freedom 250 Grand Prix, set to take place in Washington, D.C.
This special event brings high-speed excitement to the nation’s capital. The drivers discussed the unique street course layout, emphasizing the thrill of racing near iconic American landmarks. The Freedom 250 Grand Prix promises to be one of the NTT IndyCar Series’ most significant spectacles, rivaling even the famed Indianapolis 500.
Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden and Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood expressed their excitement on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends.” They talked about the rare opportunity to celebrate America’s automotive history by racing on the streets of Washington, D.C.
“It’s going to be absolutely incredible to see IndyCars racing around the nation’s capital,” Buxton remarked. “The automobile and auto racing have been central to American culture for over a century. This race celebrates America’s 250th birthday in style.”
Newgarden, a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner and series champion, highlighted the importance of this unique event. “I don’t know when we’ll have another opportunity to race in our nation’s capital,” he stated. “It’s a chance to compete and represent Team Penske and our country.”
Kyle Kirkwood, currently second in the championship standings, described the extensive preparations for the race. The street circuit will feature a start-finish line with the U.S. Capitol Building as a backdrop.
“This track has been in the works for many months,” Kirkwood noted. “It winds down Pennsylvania Avenue and around the museums, providing a stunning setting. With 100,000 attendees expected over two days, it’s going to be an extraordinary event for drivers and fans alike.”
The event kicks off with practice sessions on Saturday morning, followed by qualifying in the evening. The Grand Prix itself begins at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, with pre-race coverage starting at 11:30 a.m. on FOX.
