The Pentagon has announced the upcoming execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, confirming that the event will be livestreamed. This marks the first military execution in over 60 years. A War Department official stated, “It will be livestreamed. Details will follow.”
The execution is set to take place on December 3 at Fort Hood, Texas. Hasan, a former Army major, was convicted in 2013 for the 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, where 13 lives were lost and 32 individuals were injured. Hasan had opened fire on unarmed soldiers and civilians while shouting “Allahu Akbar.”
In 2013, he received a death sentence for his actions. The execution by firing squad was approved by President Donald Trump, acting on the recommendation of War Secretary Pete Hegseth. Earlier, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell announced on social media that “Judgment day for Hasan has finally come.”
This execution, once carried out, will be the first by the U.S. military since 1961 and the first by firing squad since 1945. Hasan is currently held on military death row at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
