Kevin Pollak shared memorable stories about Rip Torn, the actor he found most eccentric during his career. Pollak discussed these experiences on ‘The Rich Eisen Show.’
Unforgettable Encounters
Pollak worked with Torn on ‘Canadian Bacon,’ a film featuring John Candy, released posthumously for Torn. During this time, Pollak described Torn’s unpredictable behavior on set.
‘Every day, Rip would decide someone in the cast or crew was out to get him,’ Pollak recounted.
Torn often mentioned his inclusion on former President Richard Nixon’s enemies list. Pollak humorously noted Torn’s repeated references to this list.
“If a day also went by without Rip Torn saying, ‘I was on Nixon’s list.’ All right, we got it,” Pollak quipped.
Hotel Antics
Pollak shared a story involving actor Kevin O’Connor and his wife, who stayed next to Torn at a hotel. They frequently heard Torn’s loud arguments through the thin walls. This led them to compile a list of Torn’s most memorable lines.
One standout line overheard during Torn’s exchanges was: ‘I said milk it like a cow.’
Torn’s Notable Career
Despite his off-camera antics, Rip Torn enjoyed a celebrated career in film, television, and theater. He received an Academy Award nomination for ‘Cross Creek’ and appeared in ‘Men in Black’ and ‘The Larry Sanders Show.’
His role as Artie on ‘The Larry Sanders Show’ earned six consecutive Emmy nominations, winning an award in 1996.
